In classic western novels, the young cowboy that rides into town sometimes flourishes and sometimes gets run out of town. Only as the story unfolds do you find out what really happens. It has been a year since I published the blog post entitled “The young cowboy that rode into Dodge” and much has happened with SUSTAIN.
It has been a wild ride for United Suppliers. It included a merger with Land O’Lakes, a challenging economic climate in agriculture, and a goal to aggressively expand the one-of-a-kind, cutting edge SUSTAIN platform.
In October of 2015, United Suppliers and Land O’ Lakes, Inc. announced a merger. In July of 2016, Chris Policinski, Land O’Lakes, Inc. President and CEO, announced the organization of a new business unit, SUSTAIN. SUSTAIN will align the environmental sustainability efforts across the full Land O’Lakes, Inc. enterprise with one goal to deliver conservation services directly to farmers.
Matt Carstens, Land O’Lakes SVP of the SUSTAIN Business Unit, shares his vision for how modern agriculture can be part of the solution to protect water quality. Hosted by Secretary of State John Kerry, Carstens addressed the 2016 Our Ocean conference in Washington, D.C.
The SUSTAIN platform is no longer just a young cowboy. I think Land O’Lakes appointed SUSTAIN the sheriff and gave it a posse to boot. Wow, seems like the young cowboy just grew up. Only time will tell if the sheriff matures into a “Marshall Matt Dillon”, but the future looks bright.
