Today I can announce that the cavalry is on its way. United Suppliers, Inc. has saddled up and is ready to charge ahead. I am thrilled to announce that Agren and United Suppliers are collaborating to demonstrate and market conservation planning services to the United Suppliers’ leading-edge owners and customers.
In an effort to get more conservation on the ground, United Suppliers is making a significant investment into developing a “conservation planning service” through the private sector. To my knowledge, this offer by United Suppliers is the single largest investment by a private business to offer private sector soil conservation planning and implementation services to farmers.
United Suppliers has hired Stan Buman, formerly of Agren, to lead an effort to bring conservation planning services to United Suppliers’ owners and growers. Stan will utilize Agren’s web-based conservation planning software to provide fast and accurate conservation plans to growers through United Suppliers’ network of ag retailer agronomists. Service offerings include soil loss estimates and initial planning of conservation structures, including grassed waterways, water and sediment control basins, ponds and wetlands.
We will definitely miss Stan’s leadership and guidance at Agren, but we all realize this is the best opportunity to get a private sector conservation planning service up and running. I firmly believe, in time, this model will change how soil and water conservation services are delivered to the farm gate. I look forward to the opportunities this initiative brings to landowners.
“The new conservation planning service will provide growers assistance in exploring conservation alternatives that best meet their needs,” said United Suppliers President & CEO Brad Oelmann.” Agren’s software allows us to provide precision ag data-layers for soil loss and steepness that are unmatched by any other program.”
